Day 6 and 7th has been the highlight of the trip. If you are thinking of heading to Petra, I would highly recommend a tour guide, spending a day and a half there. Petra is so huge, hard to see everything in a day.
With Niles as our tour guide, he was able to perfectly time the moment to see the Monastery, the Treasury, and walk the hidden paths like the locals. Niles used to live in the caves of Petra, so he knows the area well. He introduced us to so many Bedouin, including his brother that is one of the few that still lives in the cave today.
Niles brought us to a local view of the Treasury, and enjoy tea while admiring it.
We head up to the Monastery right before sunset. The monastery fascade is perfectly lid. Then take a short hike up to the summit “end of the world”, and enjoy the remaining of the sunset over Jordanian tea. Don’t stay too long, as the hike back down takes an hour, having enough daylight makes it easier.
At the end of day 1, Niles invited us to his home for dinner. It was a simple dish, chicken served with rice and potatoes. As simple as it sounds, it is one of the memorable meal we had in Jordan so far!
On day 2, we had to head back to the famous Treasury. Go early in the morning so that the sun will be able to light facade, making it picture perfect.
Recommends
-plan a day and a half for Petra
-visit the Treasury during 8-9am, so the sun will lighten up the fascade
-visit the Monument just before sunset, and head to the cliff at End of the world
-hire a local Bedouin to show you around Petra, I can refer you to Niles
Indiana Jones was there, but no luck finding that cup

Is this where they filmed Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade? Keep an eye out for the Holy Grail. Andrew 🙂
