We headed to Umm Rasas and Crusade castle shortly after lunch. We saw some of the most amazing mosaic work that dates back 1500 years ago. At Umm Rasas, it just recently became a world heritage site, so you are still able to freely roam on the ruins without much restrictions.
.
After a nice simple tourist priced dinner ($30) , we started heading to our final destination Petra.
Arriving Petra was the hardest part of the trip so far. We didn’t make it to the hotel until late at night. If my math is correct, I haven’t seen a bed for 34 hours straight.
With sleep deprivation, Google map epic fail (the dot is miles away from where the hotel should be), ATM issues, it was still a very pleasant journey.
It’s amazing our navigator managed to pull us through with the combination of digital compass, paper map, and Google GPS pre-cache map that lacks most of the small streets we were on. We had to do no more than 4 U-Turns throughout the 20 hours road trip to Petra. It’s just AMAZING!
Taking the path via Kings Hwy is more than worthwhile. It is one of the oldest paths to Petra that is still being use for more than 3000 years. Its a drive through the ups and downs of the Valley, with many hairpin turns inches away from the cliff. It also has the most majestic sunset I have ever seen. Pictures will be up shortly, but don’t think I was able to capture the greatness of the moment.
