Beginning of the 1st road trip. Just a short ride from Saigon to Cần Thơ, where the Mekong River about to meet the sea. The ride is merely 165 kms that took roughly over 6 hours. It is strange that it takes so long to travel so little, as we normally assume 100km/h average traveling speed. For distance like this, an 1.5 hours drive?
Fastest I managed to go was maybe just shy of 70 km/h. The highways here are 2 lane traffic, with a wide shoulder on the side. It’s stange that bikes are only allow on the shoulder of the hwy, yet there are so many them. Some bikes even goes against traffic, so how fast can we safely go?
As I rode more, it felt safer if I disobey the law and ride just on the far right of the car lane. If I get pull over for a ticket for that, so be it. Any ticket is better than hitting head on with something, even at times going bicycle speed of 30km/h. I kinda like collecting tickets around the world anyhow. An experience money can’t buy.
As with any road trip, staying as we please is the way to go. With the exhausting heat, it’s great taking it easy. Stopped by this place for lunch, it’s great seeing classic bottle pop being offered
Once we got closer to Cần Thơ, it’s great seeing kids enjoying the southern breeze. There are so many kites along the sky. Some parts, over 30 kites along the bridges. It’s very magnificent see the great weather being enjoyed.
To end the day, found a place that serves those rice wrap once more. Their specialty is Cá quẫy (BBQ fish) and a warm beer water downed with ice. Funny most drinks are not cold in Vietnam. Very hard avoiding using ice with drinks.
