Day 29-38 Berlin

Met Thomas at the Bird burger joint. With the little English, we had an amazing conversation. A lot of times, you are surprised how much body language can explain, even complicated topics.

The Berlin wall is well known. We always heard East Berlin, West Berlin, East Germany, and West Germany. Somehow, I always assumed the Berlin Wall separates the country, and Berlin just happens to lie on the line between both halves. But it is a wall surrounding West Berlin within Eastern Germany under communist Iron Curtain rule.

Within both sides of the Berlin Wall, there is a corridor guarded by snipers. They have been giving “shot to kill” to anyone that attempts crossing the walls, escaping to the west. And Thomas was one of those snipers guarding the wall for 20 years.

Everyday he goes to work, wishing “I do not want to shot anyone! ” if he fails to do his job, there are life threatening consequences. Our jobs will never be as bad as his!

Other interesting things I’ve learned while in Berlin :

-Istanbul is the only city that lies on 2 continents

-Spanish is the official language of Spain, but it has 4 other languages that is completely different than Spanish

-Qubecois french sounds like Scottish English. There is heavy accents that even the french can’t understands

Best Places to eat :

-the Bird, one of the best burgers I had. Go between 6-8pm and sit at the bar, buy one get one free beer. Expect an hour line up though

-best half chicken I had.  Crispy, cooked to perfection. Meat is juicy and right out of the over, fresh and hot makes it extra yummy. £6.50 is a good deal.

Comment for Day 29-38 Berlin

Viki

Like the part about the body language. Like the conversation part (I can totally imagine how it went. Trust me, I did that many times, without google translate!) Like the history briefing. Like the Thomas encounter. Like Thomas, dislike his (former) job. Like the concise favorites and findings.

Yup, this pretty much tells you:
I LIKE this post.
