The boat finally will set sail from Keelung to Matsu Island. There has been strong waves the last 2 days, so I’m not expecting a smooth ride tonight.
When I got to the port, it’s all military personnel waiting to get on board. I might be the only civilian, definitely the only foreigner. It’s a good thing my friend called ahead, and reserved a seat. Very likely I will stay in Taiwan for another night without reservation.
Matsu Island is a military training camp, as it is located not far from Mainland China. It’s been a military base since the civil war, after World War II. Hence, full of military officers.
The 12 hours boat trip sure wasn’t easy. I was lying down on my sleeper bed. I can feel my body free fall for a split second between each wave. All I can do is try to visualize the boat going through each wave, trying to keep myself from getting sea sick. It sure wasn’t easy, as I can hear the military boys puking nearby, like on the bed just across from me. This is only within half hour since the boat set sail.
Another self discovery for taking the path unknown. I can hold it together, and don’t get sea sick easily.
