Sofia has been a great little city. The 3 days here has been relaxing. Checked out a few areas, but had an great appetite for the local food. Everything is yogult here, starting with cold yogurt soup
Pulled pork knuckle in creamy yogult sauces
And a fancy kebab dinner at:
About to leave Sofia to Athens tonight. But found out there are no trains going to Greece, after one of the major railway in Greece shut down. It will be a long 12 hours bus ride to Athens, hoping the bus is at least air cond.
Had a really bad experience on the night train from Bucharest to Sofia.
Had a stop over at Bucharest Romania, before heading to Sofia Bulgaria on nights train. Bought a few things, hoping it will be cheaper as it is in the eastern Europe. With the expectation that the avg income is around €300, rent cost is €125, beer is only €1, so clothing and necessity should be relative to income, meaning CHEAP.
As traveling w/ lots of dead weight, I have lot some weight as well. All the pants and shorts are too loose, probably lost 2 inchs around the waist. So did some quick shopping in the mall as I was trying to avoid the heat as well. It's been 36 celcius here. But things...
It's will be a long commute the next couple of days. Planning to meet a friend in Athens, but I'm still 1800 kms away, 3 night trains away.
Traveling from Cluj Romania to Bucharest Romania, spend a day in Bucharest. Then night train to Sofia Bulgaria, spend 2 nights there. Then another night train to Athens.
Seems very rush right now, and sleeping on the train isn't that easy..
Since trains has been an challenge, thought I'll try other modes of transport. Will be traveling by buses. Will be heading south from Lviv to Romania, then head further south to Sofia Bulgaria by the weekend.
Started by purchasing the wrong bus ticket. It heads South east instead heading straight down from Lviv. There is no exchange for the ticket, will stop at the next biggest city and hope there is a connecting bus there. Taking a chance, and hope for the best.
Other thoughts:
Bus is so freaking hot, but Ukrainian prefer not having the windows open. We tried opening the roof hatch,...
Picking up the Eurocup ticket for today's game, Denmark vs Portugal. Hear it will be exciting!
On the way to the Arena Lviv, I've noticed something. People in Ukraine are so polite and honest. It's something that's lost in the western cultures.
While on the bus, any new passengers getting on a packed bus from the back doors, you will often see they will pass their fare forward to other passengers, and money will get all the way to the driver. If exactly change was not given, you will see the change gets pass back to the passenger that paid.
Another thing that's lost in our culture,...
