Met a biker awhile back in Saigon. He was riding the south part of Vietnam, between the area of Da Lak and Saigon. He mentioned there is a great bike route I should not miss.
He suggested from Miu Ne, take the road north to Da Lak. Was the suggested route an awesome ride. It reminds me why I’ve always love motorcycling.
Near Phan Thiết, we started slow through local roads, where they have hardly ever seen a foreigner. Our bikes and our clothes stands out. One wearing a tank top with golden long hair, while other full bike gear in the intense heat. We can see eyes watching us as we roam by the towns. Kids will wave and say hi along the way. Adults will smile at us, amazed that we are in the middle of no where, possibly thinking we are lost. There isn’t much these places has to offer, except the simple happy way of life that the western culture has forgotten.
We weren’t able to find anything decent enough to eat. We did find a field of banana trees near the peak of the mountain. Funny this is the 1st time I’ve seen a banana tree.
Once we reach the mountains, roughly 50kms from Di Lính, is where motorcycling is about.
There are hardly any traffic, just perfect rhythm twisty roads going up and down the mountain. Perfect 2nd gear hairpins, with a touch of 3rd gear along the straights. It lasted till we were 10 kms from Di Lính, over an hour of nonstop joy.
We made it as far as Di Linh today. Decided to take it easy, and rest a bit. It feels a little rush as we are not sure if we will make it to Da Lak before night fall.
